Born in Sydney (1942), Garry Shead is one of
Australia's most celebrated and distinctive artists.
His work renowned for its narration and emotional
edge, both of which unfold through his lyrical and
expressive figuration. He is also known as an
experimental filmmaker and printmaker.
Shead's paintings are represented in the National
Gallery of Australia, in leading state and regional
Galleries as well as International collections. In
1993 he won Australia's most prestigious portrait
prize, The Archibald.
